Troubleshooting & repair
This is half of what we do. A breaker that won't stay on. Half the kitchen dead. Lights that dim when the furnace kicks in. A switch plate that's warm.
The work is in finding the cause, not replacing parts until something sticks. Most of the time we track it down and fix it the same visit. If it turns out to be something bigger, like a failing panel or a bad neutral, we'll stop and explain what we found before spending your money on it.

Panel upgrades & replacements
Plenty of Missoula houses are still running a 60- or 100-amp service, and some still have a fuse box in the basement. That was fine in 1955. It's thin now.
We swap services up to a 200-amp panel, replace the Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels that insurers keep flagging, and add sub-panels for garages and shops. We handle the permit and the utility coordination, and you get a panel with every breaker labeled in writing.

Wiring & rewiring
New circuits for a hot tub, a shop heater or a kitchen remodel. Opening up walls on an older place and putting it back right. Whole-house rewires when the old cloth wiring has had enough.
On the older homes around downtown and the University District you'll find knob-and-tube and ungrounded two-prong outlets. You don't have to do the whole house in one go. We'll do it in stages, start with the circuits that actually carry load, and keep the drywall damage as small as we can.
EV charger installs
A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt circuit, and the install is mostly about two things: whether your panel has room, and how far the garage is from it.
We'll check the panel first. If there's capacity, it's usually a half-day job. If there isn't, we'll tell you what it takes to make room rather than hanging a charger on a service that can't carry it. Hardwired or an outlet, your call.

Lighting & ceiling fans
Can lights, fixture swaps, ceiling fans, under-cabinet lighting in a kitchen, dimmers and smart switches. Outdoor lighting on the driveway and the back steps, in boxes that hold up to a Montana winter.
Small stuff, but it's the kind of thing people live with every day, so we hang it level and leave the room clean.
Outlets, switches & GFCI
Adding outlets where the furniture actually is. Replacing ungrounded two-prong receptacles. GFCI in kitchens, baths, garages and outside. AFCI breakers in bedrooms. A 240-volt outlet for a dryer, a welder or a compressor.
Cheap work that quietly makes an old house a lot safer.
Generators & surge protection
If you're on a well, a long outage isn't just dark, it's no water. We install transfer switches and inlets for portable generators and hookups for standby units, wired so you're never back-feeding the line a utility crew is working on.
Whole-home surge protection at the panel is the other one worth doing. It's a couple hundred dollars and it protects the furnace board, which is not a couple hundred dollars.
